Turcotte is to be congratulated in this important contribution, which is so very useful to scientists in other fields.. This is a ok manual for the price, but it's from 1990 (22 years old in 2012). I picked it up as a tool to re-familiarize myself with the fundamental ideas of mathematics and found it more than satisfactory to that end. The male protagonist is hardly human; he's perfect in looks, build, brains, behavior (other than the fact that he's aiding and abetting criminals), and naturally is the best lover in the world, or at least in Texas. So don't spend a lot for a used text copy; spend for the NEW text if you'd rather be sure. Haven't seen it in a formal classroom setting, but I intend to adapt to a lunch-and-learn format as part of our Office365 migration.Office365 continues to change, so printed material can contain obsolete material - hence four starts instead of five.. Crisfield's first and second books are excellent sources for anyone from different disiplines. It will pay off a thousand times..
