Charlotte Clark is Hilke's younger sister. Tragically, she was killed in a car crash aged just 30, soon after having her first child. She translated Hilke's Diary so that today's children could share her story. Hilke married an Englishman in the 1950s. She lives in Warwickshire. She has her own story to tell of her experiences being evacuated in Germany in the war and has written papers and often gives talks on the subject. Charlotte later married her husband and brought up Hilke's son as her own.

Hilke's Diary is a battered chintz-covered little book with a flowery pattern, its lock (once so important to its young owner) long-since broken. Hilke was evacuated from Hamburg and separated from her family; she was placed in 1940 with her uncle and aunt in Meisnheim, then later in 1942 she was sent to an estate as a companion for a little girl. Her siblings were also sent away, split up in the desperation to place them somewhere safe as bombing on Hamburg intensified with the firestorm in 1943. It has survived an incredible near-70 years, and was the inseparable companion of a little German girl throughout World War II. Her childhood diary was her one confidant along her arduous journey home. When the war ended this school closed and the pupils were left on the streets with just a handful of money, no papers, and no responsible adult to help them get home. This title presents the important record of the experience of war through the eyes of a little German girl. In 1944, Hilke was sent to a boarding school on Lake Constance, miles from home. Hilke then embarked on a long journey across Germany to find her family, unsure whether they had even survived the bombing. It is complemented by family photographs, contemporary articles, maps, and a timeline of events.

Im a practical person and by no means a "doomsday prepper" or one of those people just waiting for the other shoe to drop. The most foolish statement I've ever heard from an adult is "children are so childish." Believe it or not you weren't born an adult, you were once a kid yourself. In my chosen field of Architecture we use what exists to create new facilities. Overall if you are a Ryan Adams fan this is the book to read.. They join together in the arduous task of turning her into a winning racehorse, surrounded by some colorful supporting players. Nevertheless, Renardy and Rogers succeed in introducing the most important concepts and explaining their interrelations, so that alltogether, the book provides the reader with the background necessary for diving safely into the more advanced literature on the subject. It was a pleasure for me to read the book, and after nearly four years of work in PDEs, it is still my reference of choice. Great series. Some of the advice includes avoiding the "infidels" in the department who might be troublemakers, not drinking and drugging excessively, and some other delightfully quaint advice that makes the author sound like he was raised in the 1880's.Overall, a good introduction to fixture des
