A quirky cast of eccentrics vies for a slice of the Hamptons--on land still inhabited by families that have farmed and fished the regions for generations.

According to Steven Gaines, the author of a spate of "untold" and "true" biographies of such glitterati as Calvin Klein, they're also--surprise!--a sandbox of scandal. --Maria Dolan. And who exactly has been stirring things up? Gaines centers the book on an eccentric cast of characters in Hamptons history: semicloseted gay men of fabulous wealth and Ralph Lauren taste, half-cracked Mayflower descendants going to seed, and those "Philistines," the nouveau riche, blemishing the scenery with their terrible taste. This shows the evolution of the Indy Car (including CART Championship Cars) up to 1993. It feels like the author wanted to publish a book but didn't really want to go to the trouble of writing one. The pacing is amazing and I found myself eagerly turning each page to get a step closer to the killer, hoping the detectives would find the next clue or learn a new lead. Parker shows great flexibility in the application of his earnestly argued diet. Which can be a lot of fun, BUTit was
